2021

Complete garden change around in 2020.

The biggest change was moving the pool. That came closer to the picnic bench – feels more inviting. The arch was moved into the garden and a path put down.

In the pool’s old spot, full of sun, veggies and potted plants.

By the gate of the catio, a feature piece! First just a screen but it became a pergola. My inspration for the garden is always 李子柒 Liziqi

And yesterday was the end of the hardest part – getting rid of the grass.

Now everything needs to grow. No real way to speed up that.

Gardens

Much like DIY, gardening annoys me. And much like DIY, I end up doing it. But in the back garden, apart from buying the occational plant, I haven’t done much.

Front garden

The big bed. Originally there were no beds in the front. Some work needed to be done with the electric cable to the house so the front bricks were dug up and created a muddy mess that not only looked awful but tracked mud into the house. I ended up relaying the bricks which resulted in a narrow bed under the window. And that’s how I started gardening.

The small shady bed. This was such a mess after the builders. The little wall has the water meter behind it so there’s alway easy access once the plants grow.

Back garden

First job was to paint the vibracrete wall. It took a little longer than I thought it would but it wasn’t really difficult to do and instantly changed the way the garden looked.

Paving outside the doorway – this is all my mother’s work.

Pool – I love swimming. Again, the dug up grass and plants and flowers are my mother’s work.

The pool is filled from overflow from the watertanks so for most of the really hot days were was a little bit of water – still enough to cool you down, but not enough to float. The cover keeps out dirt and bugs making it easier to clean. Also (not pictured) there’s a filter bag over the overflow pipe to catch debris from the watertanks.

I did do the guttering here – my garden contributions in the back tend to me more DIY than planting 😀 Water tanks and overflow into the pool, and a black eyed susan gone wild.
