DIY – bathroom upgrades v2

Additional bathroom upgrades!

A while ago I added a new towel rail and new cabinet to the bathroom – very cute. I also bought a new laundry basket, it was nice and simple and worked well.

But then I had an idea…

What if it matched the other items?

I forgot to take a before photo but it was plain bamboo. I used regular acrylic black paint. I added two doorknobs as little handles for look and to save my fingers trying to lift the lid. I made no changes to the cloth bag that hangs from the frame.

Finished and cute.

But the cats did get it shortly after the finished photo…

Overnight in Knysna

I decided to take a short overnight in Knysna last week. In part to help my sister move her last furniture items and in part to do a some of the walks around the area and have a brain break.

I’ve been to Knysna two or three times in June/July and the weather has been nice – cool and sunny.

Not last week – the wind was freezing and it started raining on Tuesday.

Nature walks didn’t happened – ke ke ke

But I did have some good coffee at Aweh Brew and an amazing burger at Merry. And, of course, bought books at Knysna Book Exchange.

DIY – coffee table upgrade

This first thing that came to mind when I saw this table was Howl’s Moving Castle‘s final moments.

The tray top is a nice addition should I never need a large try but it’s mainly a coffee table. There must have been wheels at one time but I wasn’t sure I wanted wheels and I wouldn’t know where to start looking for wheels to fit the slots. And those slots were deep set in the wood, replacing would be a mission with possible leg damage, removing them even more so – they were left and painted over.

The paint was Tjhoko Paint in Pebble Shadow and I used Granny B’s Armour in matt. It was my first stencilling project and I planned to add some black to the original colour for the stencil design.

Cleaning and sanding before painting two coats.

I used a sponge to dab on the darker paint. I’ve seen people use a brush but a sponge was easier for me to control.

Added new rubber stoppers on the bottom of the tray and sponge disks to the legs.

And there is a beautiful coffee table for all my cottage core needs.

Wandering on Sunday Morning

I was keen to see the Dubai Creek so even though I was slightly hungover and tired from a night out in the desert, I took a walk and was surprised to find a major river 😀

Next up was Old Town Dubai.

Old Town was very beautiful but, for me, too clean and sterile. It looked old but didn’t feel old, even though much of the original is intact. It was also early so a lot of the resturants were closed and almost nobody was there – I feel like there may be a completely different vibe in the evening. There were a lots of art places as well.
