Registering to pay tax was really simple and quick – I was at the desk for maybe three minutes.  Getting to the desk, however, took nearly an hour and half.  I’m currently holding for a ‘sales consultant’ – so far, it’s been nearly seventeen minutes.  At least I’m at home reading Batman while I wait.

EDIT:  So original instructions were incorrect.  But the change over still didn’t go smoothly… At least calling from a Telkom line is free.

To turn off my phone when it’s doing its alarm thing requires me to slide a bar and sometimes in the morning, that is difficult.  Snooze on the other hand requires a tap and sometimes I miss so I have to tap again.  I discovered this morning that multiple consecutive taps add up to consecutive snooze slots.  Snooze is ten minutes so four taps equal forty minutes.   Luckily, I walk Shackleton in the mornings so wasn’t at all late for work.  But it is something to keep in mind.

Student is watching a movie tomorrow – it took a bit of thinking into something with simple dialogue, expressive pictures but still entertaining enough for an adult man.  I don’t have anything so I’m taking him a choice of Johnny English, A Good Year and Serenity.

Also, my ‘v’ key doesn’t always work when touch typing.  I noticed while working on chapter five of Price of Freedom.  It’s not used as often as some others but it’s still important, and annoying when left out a word.   I also thought ctrl + V wasn’t doing it thing the other day and was getting annoyed with tech again.

Halloween theme

November 19, 2011 at 09:46 (Uncategorized)

We have a bunch of movies we watch on specific holidays – V for Vendetta on 5 November, Valentine’s Day on 14 February and so on.  But we didn’t have one for Halloween and I’ve been trying to think of one when I remembered Sleepy Hollow.  I was actually reading The Legend of Sleepy Hollow while trying to think of a suitable movie.  But only thought of it after I had finished.  It’s get a little worse, this morning while scanning the titles in our movie collection I came across 28 Days Later, Constantine, Doom and two Resident Evil movies.

I once read a book about a boy that goes somewhere on holiday and befriends a girl and her family are up to something.  I recall he wanted to help but she was sure he wouldn’t actually show on the day – the book doesn’t end as the original last pages were so faded the author couldn’t decipher them.   After doing some searching, I think it’s The Beachcomber by Emma Townsend but I can’t find any information about it to be sure – the name just sounds familiar.  A little frustrating.

The Big Walk

November 13, 2011 at 20:46 (Uncategorized)

Today was the Big Walk but considering the rain rain rain came down down down, I wasn’t walking.  But last year it was sunny and I did walk.  I then wrote an article about it for a free city paper.  They didn’t print it but here it is for your viewing pleasure 😛

Eleven

November 11, 2011 at 09:39 (Uncategorized)

There are a bunch of elevens today.  Maybe I should be posting this at 11h00…?

It’s Beyah’s birthday today and it would be quite cute if she was turning 11 but she’s turning 2. Nor is my grandmother turning 111 but 72.

I like it when I find things I thought I had lost.  For sometime I’ve been looking for a number of things – two CDs [Rasmas and Placebo], Kingdom Hearts cut scenes on disk, my archery armguard and my Nightmare Before Christmas manga.  I’m still looking for the last two but was very pleased last night when I found the CDs.  I’m pretty sure the manga was owned to someone but I can’t even begin to guess who.

I also happened to find two Gackt CDs I thought were somewhere else – oops.  Should go through drawers more often.

I <3 MY HOOD

November 8, 2011 at 20:13 (Uncategorized)

I’ve recently spotted a number of cars with a ‘I ❤ MY HOOD’ sticker on them somewhere.  I’ve also been reading at fair amount of Batman again, specifically Under the Hood, and once more enjoying the Red Hood.

I don’t know Photoshop but I can use MSPaint.

Irregular Verbs

November 7, 2011 at 08:35 (Fiction, Uncategorized)

This afternoon I’m doing a lesson on irregular verbs and I was trying to think of a more interesting way of showing irregular verbs.  Everyday situations are good and all but sometimes I think there should be something more creative…

He often spoke about it.  The day he drank the potion and dreamt.  It began with the wind – the wind blew through him and he fell.  He rose again and sought the end of the nightmare.  He crept quietly but had lost the key.  He grew weary of the battles he fought and so drew breath to flee and tore the dream apart.  When he finally woke, he wrote it all down before he forgot and his memory froze.

And it draws to an end…

November 4, 2011 at 18:25 (Uncategorized)

Having L and Beyah for a day is tiring, a weekend exhausting and for a week… There are no words to describe how tired I am right now.  I was very pleased to be giving my student a test today, it meant I didn’t have to plan a lesson.  Though after the test we watched some Top Gear and spoke about sports cars – I had to introduce more vocabulary than I thought and generic things such as lap and track and rally.  Ken Block was the hit of the afternoon.

Afternoon student wants to discuss economics and production, and I have discovered I know more than I thought about these fields.  Right now, I’m really pleased it’s the weekend.
