Mossel Bay

It took very short time for me to forget the charms of MB.  This morning while choking down something called breakfast at a restaurant, I was reminded of the year I spent here.  There was a woman at one of the tables with a baby buggie.  Only it contained no human baby – it was for her cat.

A pretty little cat and rather well behaved.  But then when it did try to get way, she stuck it back in the buggie with its zip up fly net.

I was rather down this week about my studies.  I failed COM2025 again and was beginning to see myself writing communication exams forever.  I began to wonder if I should rather start over with something I’m good at and want to do more rather than try to figure out something I appear to be no good at – or rather something I am unable to pass even though I do well throughout the semester.  But this morning, before my breakfast, I got an email with more results – I passed COM2036.  And with a distinction.

Four, three, two, er… four again

Guppie number three died last night.  Guppies do not float belly up, they lay at the bottom.  And while scrubbing out the shells I found guppie  number four.  My poor fish had been living with a corpse for weeks…  And Ludo is absolved.

Mangahelpers is removing their scanlations and RAWs – basically looking into the future of scanlating and realising it’s going to fall but this is not why I’m fuming.  The members’ responses to this is what has me going.  And more to the point, their inability to see past their own wants – I want it so give it to me, screw everyone else including the artist.

But sometimes I think, you are reading the scanlations and so part of the problem.

Prince of Persia

I enjoyed PoP, it was a fun movie.  It had funny moments and cool fighting scenes.  I’m still disappointed that I missed Clash of the Titans on big screen and Iron Man 2 is no longer at Cavendish but I think we’re off to see Robin Hood tomorrow evening.

I used gouache for the first time today.  Not too bad, except I had to draw my picture first but I can get over that.  I’m really enjoying getting into painting.  It’s something I want to in the evenings when the light isn’t at it’s best for embroidery or sewing.  I’ve found myself doing one of two things in the winter evenings – watching movies or watching Top Gear – great ways to spend an evening but I’m wanting something a little more creative with my time.

I read the latest Air Gear and I had to laugh.  Oh Great! is a weirdo.

Owari da…

Alchemist is now finished.  I will miss it but it was a good final chapter.  Things were wrapped up nicely.

It also seems that the scanlation world is changing – it was inevitable.  The uncontrolled madness couldn’t last.  But I had lots of fun while I was part of it and I do feel a little sadness for leaving it.  I’ve also been wrestling with myself over these past months about copyright and decided that I have to stick to my principles.  I can’t just take what I want from something.  Copyright exists for a reason [whether people agree with it or not] and even though no money was being made by scanlators, I think scanlation got too big and people stopped buying manga.    This looks like something promising and I really hope it gets off the ground – it would really be fantastic.

Many people comment on how during the school holidays there are fewer cars on the road.  Today it took me twenty minutes to get home instead of the usual forty-five.  With such a time difference, one would think that a school bus service should be implemented.  But then every time someone tried to do some positive it gets shot down or people refuse to use it.  So, I have decided that South Africans love misery and hardship.

I did have a chuckle on the way home when I saw the Times’ “1 sleep to go”.  I don’t know how many sleeps I have until the final Alchemist chapter comes out but I’m hoping for one as well.

FFXIII is slow to start.  I’m now eighteen hours in and the story is getting somewhere but I made some bad decisions in the beginning so not only am I poor, I am weak.   This means the battles are getting harder and my supplies are pretty much exhausted.  And with ten gil in my pocket and no foreseeable means of making any more I’m left with two options – start again or struggle.  I should have made this decision when I realised my error four game play hours ago.   But I didn’t and now I’m curious about the story so it’s looking like ‘struggle’ is the option I’m going for.
