Time travel

March 29, 2010 at 11:47 (Uncategorized)

My media assignment required me use ‘daily news (May 2010 – August 2010) to substantiate’ my opinion.  And it’s March 2010 so I think my media studies lecturers might know something about time travel.  Or, an even better option, I can make up my own news to substantiate my opinions.

Driver’s licences are only valid for five years meaning I will have to renew my licence in 2015 and 2020 but in 2020, according to fiction, there should be some sort of space travel or at least a flying car.  Though it is likely I won’t be able to afford a flying car.  The idea of space travel got me thinking I should have got my new passport this year instead of last year so I could get my galactic passport instead of an ordinary Earth only one in 2019.  Restricted to travel on Earth by one year… Sigh!

Happily all my assignments are in for the year.

Acrostic – Silent night

March 28, 2010 at 14:45 (Uncategorized)

Shivering in the silence

In the quiet so

Lost in moments of

Endless torment in

Nightly rituals of

Terror in the dark

Needing forgiveness so

Imagine freedom and say

Goodbye and be

Helpless again for

Tonight will be dark

Many people are under the impression that predictability is always bad.  But if you have predicted something, say in a manga, then every following chapter has the extra bonus of possibly being the one where your prediction comes to light.  I predicted something in Bleach and it happened today and it was so cool!  A popular yet completely predictable game is FFVII CC – no matter what you do, no matter what you say Zack will always die.  But even knowing that, people still play it.  Sometimes knowing what will happen means you can see other things, hear other things.

And our lives are predictable – we all die in the end.

I can have a complete fit when fanfiction writers say things like ‘no reviews, no writing’ or ‘no one is reviewing so I’m not finishing’.  The conclusion I’ve come to is that they do not write for the pleasure of writing or storytelling.  Or to further explore the worlds created.  They do not write for themselves but rather for something that I don’t really get, some reason I can’t figure out.  And they hold their readers to ransom.  For what?  A piece of fanfiction that generally isn’t all that good to begin with.  A chance at seeing two characters that normally won’t be together get together.

Don’t get me wrong, I love reviews but they are truly not the reason I write.  I want to tell a story* and often, I want to tell a story with characters that are not mine.  I think of a situation and wonder, based on what I know of a character, how would said character react to the situation or how would they reaction to the reaction of another character in the situation.  But if you are writing for reviews and not to tell a story, where is the story?  And if there is no story, why are you writing?

[*about Jack and the Glory, shall I begin it?  There’s nothing in it 😛 ]

On days like today, I would really like to swap my brain for one that doesn’t always hurt…

I also bought four fish today – not for eating, as pets.  They have been put in large glass jug with stones and shells.  Ludo sat watching them but made no attempt to catch them.  I think maybe he feels getting his paw wet is not worth the size of the catch – they are guppies.

And my new Japanese textbook arrived today – I can now be prepared for lesson instead of being surprised with every page turn.

Edit [20h11]:  I should also add I finally bought a new phone – same number.

Bubblegum Crisis

Kazu is in a serious sticky situation.

Fudge is one of the sweets I could never get right and everyone would say ‘but it’s so easy’.  I’ve tried it again today and so far it’s looking like fudge – that is, setting instead remaining a gloppy liquid.  I also got to use my sugar thermometer for the first time.  May it make all the difference.

There is something rather sad about this week’s Naruto – the burden of expectation.

So, I finally got hold of FFIX but due to region shit it doesn’t want to play…

I’m waiting for two parcels and Aki-chan is waiting for one.  There was a parcel slip in the postbox this morning and it was for me so I went up to the post office trying to decide which I wanted more – FF IX or my textbook.  I got neither because there was no parcel to collect yet.  This is not the first time I’ve received a slip and there has been nothing to collect.  It makes me wonder ‘why send the slip if there are no parcels’.

And in my excitement I had walked up in the middle of the day.
