Bus trip

January 29, 2010 at 15:42 (Uncategorized)

I’m going to be in CT from 07 February to 14 February.  I’ve decided to go by bus because even if I could afford the almost R 900 worth of petrol to get the tank to and from CT, I don’t have anywhere to park it.  And my luck someone will try to steal it.  Or worse, steal bits off of it.  I’ll just drop Aki-chan off at work and use her car [a heads up, Aki!].

I also want to attend an SCA event but info is scarce…

Naming badies

January 28, 2010 at 15:56 (Uncategorized)

I’m working on a story set in a postapocalyptic world and so decided to use real names instead of making up names like I usually do.  Some of the names I really like but I’m struck by the thought – what if actually get this published and people want to know why I chose the names I did – am I discriminating against cultures because the badie has an Arabic name?  Why have you given some of the good guys Japanese names?  Is ‘becuase it sounded cool’ and ‘I like saying the name’ a good enough excuse?  I suppose I could say that because the earth has exploded, there are no cultures left – one big group of people trying to survive.  But that’s not true…

I blame literary analysis for this sort of crap thinking.

Turns out some of my first ‘cartoon’ watching was, in fact, anime [and anime of a sort].  Admittedly they were in Afrikaans… One was Heidi and the other Brakenjan.  But these were in English – Around the World with Willy Fog and The Mysterious Cities of Gold.  Later on there was definite anime but I don’t remember titles only scenes.

I just glanced at the time – looking back at the past really takes a lot of time in the present.

The Chase of Highway

January 26, 2010 at 20:37 (Uncategorized)

I went to see Sherlock Holmes again today and while driving on the highway I realised that The Chase of Highway AC version was playing – though not much chasing was happening at a hundred.

But I thought it was quite cool for first official highway drive.

Gamed out

January 23, 2010 at 18:46 (Uncategorized)

There is a point in which someone doesn’t want to play anymore and the mere thought of having to play anything…  Today, at 17h23, I reached that point.  But I have since pulled back 😛

I can honestly say I don’t know how people regularly play Go all day – I am worn out.

In a recent conversation, I realised I’ve been reading Naruto for six years.  When I think of the two years I have left of studying and about how I’ve already been reading Air Gear for just over a year – they’ll be over pretty quick.  Sometime I think, in mild panic, ‘but what am I going to do once I’m done’ and then I tell myself ‘pull yourself together, you’ll get a job like everyone else’.  Intrapersonal communication can be harsh to yourself…

I don’t really know how to use KGS – I seldom play there and so… have never really learnt.  PandaNet is different again and I’m slowly working my way round it – I even managed to play a game.

If someone were to say something about ‘World Cup 2010’, I can say ‘I’m trying for that’.  Though it’s Pair Go and not soccer 😛

Oh, be still – TIME!

January 19, 2010 at 08:01 (Uncategorized)

Time is different in smaller towns – when the plumber says ‘I’ll be there at 07h00 on Tuesday’, what he actually means is ‘I might be there on Tuesday’.

Bad Omens

Right, so… I haven’t been able to get out the drive without taking the wheel fender off the car.  Get licence, crash car – I feel rather stupid at the moment…

I am now licenced to drive motorised vehicles.

Cool Movies

January 11, 2010 at 18:33 (Uncategorized)

Cool Movies [Doom] are not necessarily Good Movies [Sherlock Holmes] nor are they Entertaining Movies [Avatar] – they might have bits of both with a helping of Bad Movies [Battlefield Earth] but seldom, if ever, any Epic Movies [LOTR].  I like Cool Movies so when I saw a preview for GI Joe, I thought – that looks like a Cool Movie.  The preview holds about 80% of all the Cool Movie bits – essentially it was a Boring Movie [GI Joe].
