Sorry, what?
I read fanfiction because I like certain characters and want to read further adventures concerning them, preferable canon in character well written action adventure stories with good dialogue [rare]. So when I came across the review for a story that I was undecided on reading [oft time the level of the reviews are indicative of the story plot or writing style], I was unsure of how to react.
The reviewer noted that they were hesitant in reviewing because they do not know the anime nor can that they state anything about the intentions of the character nor where they are coming from but they wanted to comment on the tone of the piece [personally, I think this is rather nice but not the point of the post].
Ultimately, I’m curious as to why someone would trawl through the fanfiction of an unknown anime/book/whatever looking for something to read – go for original fiction rather. I would think that some of the story would be lost is you didn’t know the fandom – you would know no background, character traits or descriptions. There is so much crap out there that I would be very nervous to venture into unknown fandoms. Hell, I’m nervous venturing into known fandoms.
It’s a mole!
This morning the cats had something. Luckily it managed to get under the floor boards in the bedroom but I was concerned it would die and fill the room with the smell of dead. It came out a little later so Akichan and I caught it and released it – not quite into the wild but the business park’s gardens. It appeared to be happy enough…
Sometimes I can be quite sad – Naruto fillers are probably the worst things I’ve ever encountered and sat through but without them my Naruto collection is incomplete. I have them all now and I’ve seen them… but the collection is complete, I must focus on that and not my now rotting brain. Another good thing is I can cross off one song from the list of songs I’m looking; it doesn’t help that I don’t know the titles nor artist for some of the songs. I’ve tried asking on forums but no appears to know them either.
There is no Japanese this week – phew! The current lesson is a toughie – actually it’s really really hard *sob* It’s the closest I’ve ever been to giving up on Japanese but Sensei and I are making our (slow) way through. I explained the deal and he’s been very helpful.
159-124=
The amount my IQ has dropped by. Years ago I did an IQ test and got 159. I did one some time this week and got 124. Maybe I’m reading too much manga… which brings me to Tales of Symphonia. I’ve been reading the manga adaptation. I like the artwork but the story is a bit chopped up (naturally due to originally being a game) and the worst are all the game mechanics – they weren’t quite healing potions being thrown around but it was close enough.
UNISA are no longer accepting applications for Linguistics so my option are to continue with Communication Science which is okay but I really really want to go into Linguistics. Choices choices…
Review
Some internet authors are under the impression that reviewing someone else’s work automatically mean they should receive a review in return – and some demand this. Personally, I think this is very rude. If someone happens to feel that your story needs a review (good or bad) and they go through the effort of reviewing – lucky you. Most people like a good review but that doesn’t mean they deserve a review. It is up to the reader. For me, demanding a review is a sure way for me not to read the story at all.
Finally saw Diamond Dust Rebellion – it was cool. AND Bleach has left me wondering this week… a whole week of waiting. I read the Alchemist RAW; I’m hoping the scanalation is out soon as so much is happening that I can’t understand.
The internet provider is driving me nuts! nuts! nuts!
